Service for the Ordination to the Priesthood and Diaconate at St. Thomas’s Cathedral Kuching
The service was held at the St. Thomas’s Cathedral Kuching on Sunday, 18th March 2018 during the Evening Service at 5.00pm.
The Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, The Right Rev’d Danald Jute conducted the Ordination Service.
Also in attendance were Bishop the Right Rev’d Aeries Sumping , Bishop the Right Rev’d Soloman Cheong, Canon Rev’d Nelson Ugas , Canon Rev’d Andrew Pahah, Canon Rev’d Gregory Chambers, Canon Rev’d Michael Spenser Woods, Canon Rev’d James Juhari, the Dean The Very Rev’d Kho Thong Meng, Rev’d Leslie Keyu, Rev’d Kenny Tan, Rev’d Doyle Owen LaCasse, the Chancellor Leonard David Shim, the Registrar Dato’ Benedict Bujang Tembak, Deacons, Sub-Deacons and other invited priests.
Besides the parishioners for the evening service, members from the various Anglican parishes also attended to witness the ordination service.
As the service began, the Bishop recited the Prayers of Penitence, the Kyries, the Gloria and the Collect. These were followed by the reading from Old Testament on Isaiah 6:1-8 and New Testament reading on Romans 12:1-12. Bishop Danald Jute then preached on the Gospel St. John 20: 19-23. All parishioners recited the Nicene Creed.
The Ordination Service began with the presentation of the eight (8) Sub-Deacons to be ordained to the Diaconate as announced by the Archdeacon. They were Josh Sim Kuan Hui, Villy Velin, Nigel Manjan, Jeffry Renos Nawie, Ivor E. Lim, Sika Karong, Lawrence Wah Onn and Andy Kiew.
The Archdeacon then read out the names of the two Deacons, Wilston Trin and Moses Linkong, to be ordained to the Priesthood.
All candidates knelt before the Bishop to read the declaration and stood up before signing the documents witnessed by the Chancellor and the Registrar.
The Bishop then commended those to be ordained to the Prayers of the People. Veni Creator was sung.
The candidates knelt before the Bishop and he stretched out his hands towards them and recited the Prayer. He laid his hands on the head of each candidate and continued to recite the Prayer after he had laid his hands on all of them. Then the candidates knelt before the Bishop for the placing of the Stole over the left shoulder of each one of them and tying of the Stole.
For the ordination of the Priests, they knelt before the Bishop while he stretched out his hands towards them and prayed and then laid his hands on the head of each candidate and continued to pray. The Bishop shall cause the Stoles to be worn priestwise by each priest and to wear the folded Chasuble.
Each candidate received the Chalice and Paten with Purification and was presented with a copy of the Holy Bible. The Bishop read the Holy Orders and the Licence and presented them to the priests.
