Central Archdeaconry Subdeacons/Readers/Lay Readers Conference 22.2.2020
The one day inaugural Central Archdeaconry Subdeacons/Readers/Lay Readers Conference was held in St. Luke, Simanggang on 22 February 2020. About 300 delegates from the Central Archdeaconry , stretching from Abok to Sarikei, attended the conference.

In his opening address, Bishop Danald Jute spoke on the topic of intentional discipleship, in line with the theme of the Diocese, “Reaching forward intentionally” . The Diocesan focus for the years 2020-2030 is on making discipleship. How can we be better disciples? How may every church member be more committed in serving and giving?
He expounded on Acts 20: 17-30, Paul’s call upon the leaders. Leaders are to
1. Serve God with humility v. 19
2. Teach what is helpful in word and deed.v.20, v.27
3. Accept the cost. V.23-24
4. Care deeply about their church. V.28
5. Protect their flock. V.29-30
6. Keep watch over themselves. V.28
Rev. Alfred gave a talk on “The Church and Mission” and “An introduction to Theological Studies”. He emphasized the need to heed the Lord’s call to evangelism and disciple making in the Great Commission.
Canon James Juhari spoke on the topic of Building Healthy Leads based on the 5C model (Christ, Competence, Character, Calling, Community) and on Pastoral Theology, focusing on shared leadership and delegation of tasks to leaders.
In the final session, Rev. Stephen spoke on the new catechism materials and some of the new features of the manual. He also shared on some practical steps on setting up a discipleship group.
The delegates enjoyed a fellowship meal together.
